Hibiscus is called "Red Sorrel" or "Agua de Jamaica" in the Caribbean and has been used in tropical regions for centuries for the numerous reasons listed below.

Internal Benefits Of Hibiscus Petals

Edible Hibiscus Flowers make a deliciously tart cranberry-like beverage, enjoyed hot or cold, with amazing internal benefits for Diabetics, Arthritis, the heart, liver and immune system. There are numerous claims that consuming the tea can reduce high blood pressure by more than 10 points. Many find weight loss advantages with its ability to increase the metabolism, absorb starch and glucose with digestive system benefits. Hibiscus flowers are loaded with Ascorbic Acid, also known as Vitamin C, that helps prevent the common cold, viral infections or the flu. It has the ability to reduce a sore throat and fever and is often guzzled as a sports drink due to its cooling effect and its ability to satiate thirst. Hibiscus is known to be calming to the nervous system easing depression, anxiety and hormonal imbalances, creating a relaxing feeling for the mind and body, especially if you are prone to cramps. Please note that Hibiscus Tea is quite powerful and should not be consumed during pregnancy (hormones) or if you have low blood pressure issues. At our home, we drink the following Hibiscus Tea recipe everyday.

Hibiscus Petal Sun Tea Recipe

To make "Sun Tea" with Hibiscus Flowers, simply add 2 tablespoons of loose tea to each quart of purified water and leave it in the sun for up to 3 hours, shaking the pitcher once each hour. Use a slotted spoon to remove the petals after they have infused your tea. Sweeten with organic raw honey, agave nectar or a bit of sugar if needed and serve over crushed ice. A twist of lime or orange adds depth to the tea. Steeping the tea with fresh rose petals, a cinnamon stick or a cup of fresh blueberries or strawberries. This tea can be cold brewed overnight in your fridge and strained in the morning.

Skin Benefits Of Hibiscus Petals

The benefits to our skin are equally impressive, since Hibiscus is referred to as "Nature's Botox", due to its firming and tightening compounds. There is an enzyme that affects the youthfulness of our skin in a very negative way. It is a bacteria that breaks down the elastic fibers and collagen proteins of our skin. Hibiscus, being an anti-bacterial agent, inhibits the enzyme Elastase, responsible for breaking down our skin's natural elastin. Organic Hibiscus Tea not only naturally contains high levels of Vitamin C, but also Minerals, Polysaccharides, Glycosides and boasts a natural level of 15%-30% of Malic, Tartaric and Citric Acids - beneficial Alpha Hydroxy Acids for anti-aging, gentle exfoliation, cell turnover and correcting UV damage. Additionally, Hibiscus contains mucilage, a syrup like natural lubricant, that enhances and retains moisture within our skin for a healthy glow and pure radiance. For a firm and smooth face and body, we have you covered with the following spa skin care with Hibiscus Petals:

We make absolutely no claims that our Hibiscus Solar Oil heals the medical conditions listed below, but it is interesting to note there has been extensive research into and the use of Hibiscus Petal Tea. In China doctors use Hibiscus for the treatment of Herpes Zoster and other infections, both internally and externally, due to its antiviral and antibacterial agents. A study conducted by PubMed (The National Library of Medicine) concluded that Hibiscus had positive effects on skin cancer and tumor formation on mice due to its superior level of antioxidants. Certified Organic Hibiscus Flower Tea is excellent for the skin for the following reasons and in Sweet Life Spa's Organic Apothecary products listed below and found at SweetLifeSpa.com
