Olive Squalane Skin Benefits

Olive Fruit Oil is wonderful for moisturizing parched skin and has been used for thousands of years. Every part of the olive tree can be used from its leaves, bark, fruit and seed. We love the emollient nature of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in our Mojito "Sweet Feet" Butter. However, it can be a bit too heavy for face care since it naturally carries a strong fragrance. For our Organic "Sweet Face" Collection, we turn to 100% Pure USA Grown Olive Squalane for fast penetrating moisture without the heavy feeling or aroma of olive oil. Olive Squalane soaks into your dermis or second layer of skin and doesn't just sit on top of your skin. It reduces the occurrence of flakes and creates a lipid barrier that locks out impurities while retaining moisture deep within for glowing skin.

How is Olive Squalane different than Extra Virgin Olive Oil? After olives are crushed in large pressing vats for their oil and juices, squalane is collected. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is from the first and second press. Next the seed, or pip, of olives are distilled using a supercritical carbon dioxide process without hexane. For many years Squalene was only obtained from shark livers. Many skincare companies still incorporate this type of controversial oil in their products. There is no law stating that they have to tell you which variety is in the product. If this is a concern for you, we recommend that you look at labels to see if your skincare includes this substance. How can you tell the difference? Shark derived oil is spelled Squalene. Olive derived Squalane is spelled with an "a" instead of an "e" as its 6th letter.

You will also find naturally occurring Squalane in other plant botanicals such as rice bran, sunflowers, grapeseeds and hazelnuts in lesser amounts. However, olives contain 464 mg natural squalane compared to grapeseed's 14 mg. That's pretty impressive and you can really feel the silkiness in our Organic Facial Serums and "Sweet Relief" Burn Serum due to the Olive Squalane content.

What makes Olive Squalane so amazing for our skin? Our skin's sebum naturally contains up to 25% squalene. At birth, it is the most common lipid produced in our liver and is secreted into our bloodstream and sebaceous glands by small density lipoproteins. Although it is an integral part of our skin's tissues, this compound peaks in our early 20's and diminishes as we age as fine lines and wrinkles set in. Olive Squalane combats the production of wrinkles by soaking into our skin at a rapid rate of 3mm per second with antibacterial properties. If you can't wait to get your hands on some 100% Pure, USA grown Olive Squalane, check out our smoothing serums with our antioxidant and vitamin dense Damascus Rose, Rosehip, Hibiscus, Marine and Green Tea Apothecary Botanical Solar Oils at SweetLifeSpa.com
