Calendula Skin Benefits

At Sweet Life Spa, we specialize in Apothecary Botanical Solar Oils infused with Organic Teas, including Calendula or more commonly known as the Pot Marigold. The name is derived from the Greek word for calendar since Calendula flowers often bloom on the first of the month. It is a member of the Asteraceae family that includes the Daisy, Chrysanthemum and Marigolds. There are 15-20 varieties of Calendula, but the most prized is Pot Marigold or Calendula officinalis, which is most often infused for its rapid wound recovery benefits. The tops of the bright and sunny yellow or orange flowers contain high amounts of antiseptic and antibacterial agents that have been used for centuries for a myriad of skin and internal issues. The bitter petals can be steeped as a tea for digestive complaints, oral inflammation and the benefits of Calendula blooms are as follows for our skin:

  • Soothes sensitive skin and chronically irritated conditions, including rashes, Eczema, Dermatitis and other inflamed, itchy issues
  • Addresses wounds, cuts, scrapes, burns, ingrown hairs, insect bites, bed sores, varicose and spider veins and acne
  • Moisturizes dehydrated skin and soothes the pain associated with severely cracked tissue
  • As an anti-inflammatory it works well for sprains and bruises and lessens the swelling of injuries
  • Baby care for soothing diaper rash
  • Calendula's anti-fungal action has is often used to treat athlete's foot, ring worm and jock itch
